Under Six Decades of US Embargo
Imposed in 1960 and later extended to include almost all exports, the American Embargo Against Cuba is the most enduring economic embargo in modern history. This photographic documentary focuses on the amazing resourcefulness and resilience of the Cuban people under the crushing shortages and economic blight that the embargo imposes on their daily lives. Simultaneously, they struggle beneath an authoritarian government with a long record of human rights abuses. Their thriving black market, horse-drawn taxis, farms tilled by oxen, Frankenstein cars cobbled together from mis-matched parts, and skillful use of social media to circumvent government suppression of free speech- these are just a few examples of Cuban ingenuity in the face of adversity.
