Jesha Mae Bonita, Philippines
Following her graduation as class valedictorian from a primary school in the remote, forested area near her home, CDA sponsored Jesha’s enrolment at a prestigious, private junior high school in the capital city of her province. Jesha’s parents are low-wage tourism workers who grew up on subsistence farms. In addition to her tuition, CDA also sponsors Jesha’s transportation costs, books, uniforms and supplies. She plans a career in health care as a nurse or physician. CDA is committed to sponsoring her education all the way through high school and university until she graduates with a degree to begin her career.
Sandy Kheoviphongxay, Laos
CDA sponsored Sandy’s education from primary school at age nine until her recent graduation from Laos National University in the nation’s capital. Sandy’s father died two weeks before she was born and she was raised by her widowed mother, a hair stylist. Today Sandy owns a successful salon and dermatology clinic in Vientiane focusing on treatment of acne, a common problem in southeast Asian countries.
Phoukham Sivongsa, Laos
CDA has sponsored Phoukham’s education since his first year of Anouban (kindergarten) in Ban Lak Hapsip Song (Kilometer 52 Town), Laos. He is currently in fourth grade and being raised by his grandmother. Phoukham’s ethnic Khmu family is among the country’s poorest. In addition to paying for tuition, books, uniforms and supplies, CDA provides an extra fifty dollars per month to help with food and other basic necessities that Phoukham needs to be able to study. Our goal is to help Phoukham become the first member of his family to graduate from high school. If he is able to study at a college or university, CDA will continue our sponsorship.
Josephine Bonita, Philippines
CDA has sponsored Josephine’s education since her recent enrollment in a university nursing program (Josephine is Jesha Mae Bonita’s youngest aunt). CDA will continue our support until Josephine graduates in approximately three years. Josephine’s parents are subsistence rice farmers with only primary school education.
Malaya Lynn Lloyd, Kansas City, MO
CDA recently established a college savings fund for Malaya Lynn Lloyd, a brilliant two-and-a-half-year-old who was already reading at a level far beyond most first graders. The funds are invested for long term growth with a sixteen-year timeline. Malaya’s parents are both full-time Amazon workers.
